And sometimes, the disappointment of realizing that your size simply isn’t available.
Over the years at 42Lolita, we have received countless messages from customers around the world. Many of them told us the same thing:
"I love these dresses."
"I wish I could wear this design."
"Do you know if there is a larger size available?"
These messages stayed with us.
We understand how much Lolita fashion can mean to someone. It is not just clothing. It is creativity, self-expression, confidence, joy, and sometimes even a sense of belonging.
We kept asking ourselves a simple question:
What can we do to help?
That question eventually became Pettilia.
Pettilia is a dedicated plus-size Lolita fashion project created by the team behind 42Lolita. Our goal is not simply to make existing garments larger. We want to help build a sizing system that genuinely works for plus-size Lolita enthusiasts, especially those in American and European countries.
To do that, we knew we needed to start from the beginning.
We collected body measurement data from thousands of plus-size Lolita wearers. We studied fit preferences, body proportions, comfort requirements, and the unique silhouette expectations of Lolita fashion. We worked closely with trusted independent Chinese Lolita brands and experienced pattern makers to rethink how garments should be designed for larger sizes.
For every large size dress we develop, the process involves repeated discussions, revisions, fittings, and adjustments. Many patterns go through three or more rounds of modification before reaching production. We visit factories, communicate directly with pattern makers, review measurements again and again, and refine countless small details that most people never see.
Because simply scaling up a standard-size pattern is not enough.
A beautiful Lolita dress should not only fit. It should feel comfortable. It should move naturally. It should create the silhouette you love. It should allow you to enjoy the fashion without constantly worrying about tight shoulders, restrictive armholes, uncomfortable waistlines, or proportions that never felt designed for your body.
That is the standard we are striving toward.
But we also know that we are only at the beginning of this journey.
Despite the time, research, and effort we have invested, we know there is still so much to learn. No sizing chart can replace real experiences from real people. That is why your feedback means everything to us.
