Pettilia - Plus Size Lolita

Pettilia is the official plus-size Lolita store of 42Lolita.

Why We Created Pettilia

Pettilia grew out of something we kept hearing from 42Lolita customers:

“The bust is so tight I can't button it up.”
“It buttons, but it feels really restrictive.”
“The shoulders are too tight, and the straps don't sit right.”
“This is the largest size, and it still doesn't fit me.”

We heard versions of these comments again and again.

Over time, we realized that the problem wasn't simply a lack of larger sizes. A garment can have a larger bust measurement and still feel restrictive around the arms. A waistline can sit too high, even when the waist measurement looks right. A shoulder can feel too narrow even when the bust fits.

Fit isn't just about making a garment bigger. It's about how the proportions work together.

We wanted plus-size Lolitas to have more styles to choose from, and clothes that feel as good as they look.

That's why we created Pettilia.

We Started by Listening

Before developing Pettilia, we surveyed thousands of plus-size Lolitas from our 42Lolita community to better understand where existing sizing was falling short.

Finally, we received:

632

survey responses from our 42Lolita community

We didn't just ask, “Do you need larger sizes?”

We also want to know: what actually doesn't fit, and where does the problem begin? What styles do they love? What design details do they care about? What colors do they want to see more of?

The answers reflected many of the problems customers had already been telling us about:

  • 54% of respondents to the bust question said the bust was too tight to button up.
  • 58% said the bust could be buttoned but still felt restrictive.
  • 63% reported problems with shoulder fit or straps.
  • Others mentioned sleeves and armholes that were too tight, waistlines that sat around the ribs instead of the natural waist, and garments where the bust fit but the waist did not.

These responses made something clear to us:

Going up a size doesn't always solve a fit problem.

Our customers were also telling us something just as important: they wanted more beautiful, comfortable options in the styles, details, and colors they actually love.

What Goes Into a Pettilia Piece

A Pettilia piece usually starts long before there is a sample to try on.

Creating a plus-size Lolita piece is not simply a matter of scaling up the measurements. We first look at the original silhouette, construction, proportions, and potential fit challenges to decide whether a design is suitable for extended-size development.

When we believe a design is worth developing, we contact the original Lolita brand to discuss whether an extended-size version is possible. Not every brand is able to collaborate, and not every design can be adapted successfully. For selected styles, we work with original brands on exclusive extended-size versions.

From there, the process becomes highly hands-on. We adjust the pattern, develop physical samples, and fit the garment with real plus-size body proportions in mind. This may involve design refinements, repeated fittings, quality checks, plus-size model try-ons, and our own photo and video shoots.

Fit testing is a key part of this process. We look at how the garment sits, moves, and feels, where it feels restrictive, and what needs to change. Just as importantly, we listen to the person wearing it.

The process often means going back to the factory, sharing feedback, revising the pattern, making new samples, and testing again. Some styles go through three or four rounds of sampling before we are ready for production.

If we are not satisfied with the fit, comfort, or overall result, we are not ready to put that piece in front of our customers.

Measuring What We Actually Make

Before a product reaches our store, we measure and recheck each piece by hand to make sure the size information reflects the actual garment.

We also arrange our own photo and video shoots rather than relying only on the original brand's standard-size images.

We don't want to overly beautify or alter what you see. Our goal is to show the garment as honestly as possible: the fabric, construction, fit, movement, and how it looks on a real plus-size body.

Whenever possible, we provide detailed photos and videos so you can get a fuller understanding of the product before you buy.

What you see should be as close as possible to what you actually receive.

What You Can Expect From Pettilia
✓

Fit information based on real measurements.
Every Pettilia piece is measured by hand and checked again by our team before we create the size chart. For key areas such as the bust and waist, we also provide recommended fit ranges so you can choose a size with comfort in mind, not just whether it technically fits.

✓

Real photos, real videos, real plus-size fit.
We photograph and film our products with real plus-size models, including try-ons, movement, and close-up details. We do not use AI to alter our product images or videos, and we avoid excessive retouching, so what you see is a realistic representation of what you will receive.

✓

Fabrics chosen for comfort.
Whether selecting an existing design or developing a new one, we carefully consider the feel, weight, structure, and stretch of the fabric. Our goal is to preserve the beauty of the design while making it comfortable to wear.

✓

Carefully selected designs and workmanship.
For collaborations with original Lolita brands, we choose styles our customers genuinely want and work with the brands to develop extended-size versions. For Noloria, a brand developed by 42Lolita, we oversee the process from fabric and design to construction and quality inspection. Whether from a partner brand or Noloria, every piece is expected to meet the same standard: thoughtful design, careful construction, and quality we are willing to stand behind.

Growing With Our Community

Pettilia is still a small label, and our collection is still growing.

Developing plus-size Lolita clothing is much more than making an existing size bigger. Each piece may require new patterns, samples, fittings, adjustments, and several rounds of revisions. It takes time, but we would rather grow carefully than offer products we are not confident in.

Pettilia began by listening to real customers, and we want to keep listening as we grow.

We put a lot of care into every piece, but we know no garment is perfect for every body. Your feedback on fit, comfort, sizing, design, fabric, or anything we could improve is always welcome — whether through a review, email, or social media message.

Your feedback helps us create better products, and it also gives other plus-size Lolitas valuable information when choosing what may work for them.

We hope Pettilia can grow together with our community — creating more beautiful, comfortable choices and helping make the plus-size Lolita community warmer, more welcoming, and more connected.
